New York is full of things asking to be looked at. That afternoon, I kept returning to the way they looked at each other.
For Sophia and Mike’s couples photoshoot in New York City, the streets became somewhere to be together. A kiss beneath the scaffolding. A yellow cab passing behind them. Out on the water, wind moving through Sophia’s hair as Mike held her close.
I love when a photograph leaves room for the real world. The buildings stay in the frame. The hair refuses to settle. A beautiful moment does not need an empty street.
Their tenderness belonged inside all that movement: a head resting against a shoulder, hands folded together, the small distances they kept closing.
I wanted to keep those details for them—the texture of an afternoon that might otherwise blur into all the others.
Years from now, perhaps a yellow cab or a sudden gust of wind will bring a little of it back.
